The Florida Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA) was enacted to be a no-fault plan of compensation for catastrophic birth-related injuries. NICA is designed to cover a narrow range of injuries to infants, with specific requirements for coverage and participation in the plan by Florida obstetricians and midwives. The course provides an overview of the provisions of NICA, to include criteria for compensation, notification requirements, provisions for enacting NICA procedure in your office.
At the conclusion of this activity physicians should be able to:
- Name the requirements for an infant to be eligible for compensation under NICA
- Understand the basic provisions of NICA compensation
- Establish a procedure for effective NICA notification in your office
