Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in women often goes undetected and untreated until the disease has become severe. Misdiagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is not only associated with a poor prognosis for the patient, but is a significant source of professional liability claims against physicians. This activity, "Women & Heart Disease: Coronary artery disease (CAD) Until Proven Otherwise", offers physicians from all specialties recommendations on how to identify and reduce factors that may cause a misdiagnosis in AMI. Topics covered include AMI statistics, risk factors, current study results, differential diagnosis and actual malpractice claims. It also provides risk management suggestions to assist in reducing liability risk and to prevent patient injury. (Please note: CME credit for this test can only be given to our insureds)
Physician who review the Handbook will:
- Understand the impact of CAD on women
- List the risk factors for CAD shared by men and women
- Recognize additional risk factors for CAD in women
- Identify the symptom presentation for CAD in women
- Recognize the differential diagnosis of chest pain syndromes
- Describe practical steps physicians can take to improve the quality of care and reduce their liability risks
