A member of the Board since 1999, Dr. Wilson assumed the position of Chairman and CEO on July 1, 2011. Before assuming this position, Dr. Wilson practiced at Cardiology of Atlanta in Sandy Springs, Ga.
Highly regarded as one of the area’s most experienced cardiologists, Dr. Wilson is also an astute businessman. After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 1973 with a degree in Economics, he continued his studies at Emory University, from which he received his doctorate in medicine in 1977. Further training included an internship at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Ga; a cardiology registrar at Princess Margaret Hospital in New Zealand; and a cardiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Wilson is Board Certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He also taught cardiology at Vanderbilt University and Emory University. In 1984, he began his cardiology practice serving the Atlanta area and had privileges at both Saint Joseph’s and Northside Hospitals.
Dr. Wilson has been selected by Atlanta Magazine as one of the “Top Doctors” in the Atlanta area. He also has fulfilled many electoral positions, including Governor of the American College of Cardiology and President of the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.
In addition to his numerous volunteer activities, Dr. Wilson conducts lab reviews for the No Longer Bound regeneration program, and conducts cardiovascular screenings for both local high schools and the Atlanta Thrashers. He also volunteered as Community Physician for 13 years with Raburn County Clinics. Dr. Wilson is an avid runner and has served as the Medical Director of the Peachtree Road Race for the past 22 years. He and his wife Sharon have two daughters attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
