A two-time graduate of the University of Florida, Dr. Bartfield earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry in 1991 followed by her Doctorate of Medicine in 1995. Remaining at the University of Florida for training, she completed a residency in internal medicine in 1998 and was chosen as chief resident of her program, going on to become clinical assistant professor of medicine and UF's first dedicated hospitalist.
Dr. Bartfield joined the Kaiser Permanente hospitalist team in Northern California in 2000, then returned to Jacksonville, Florida in 2002 as part of Baptist Health, where she continues to practice and is currently the medical director of a 26-physician hospitalist team.
A career-long passion for quality and patient safety led Dr. Bartfield to join MagMutual’s Florida claims review committee in 2013 and the Board of Directors in 2019. She currently serves on the MagMutual Foundation board and the patient safety committee. Dr. Bartfield also serves as chairman of her hospital quality committee and has been recognized by the medical staff with the Spirit of Magnet “Physician of the Year” award four times as well as the Caring Award for her advocacy and care of underprivileged clients in the city of Jacksonville.
