Meet your Patient Safety Institute Chief Medical Officer
March 13, 2017
The MagMutual Patient Safety Institute is thrilled to have Dr. Bill Kanich join the team as its Chief Medical Officer. “I’ve been practicing Emergency Medicine for the last 15 years and I’ve been a member of MagMutual’s South Carolina Claims Committee for the past 9 years. I’ve also been a member of my former hospital’s Serious Event Task Force; we investigated mishaps patients had in the hospital and implemented strategies to keep them from occurring again. I’ve always been impressed with the mission and people at MagMutual. When I had a chance to join MagMutual’s Patient Safety Institute and merge my passion for Patient Safety with the outstanding people at MagMutual, I jumped at the chance! I’m excited to be a part of the patient safety team and to work with everyone at MagMutual Insurance Company.”
Bill is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and practiced in Charleston, South Carolina prior to moving to Atlanta. Bill functions as an advisor to other members of the Patient Safety team on medical matters. He also leads educational seminars for MagMutual policyholders.
Bill received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University; his J.D. from the University of North Carolina; and his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia.
Bill recommends reading Physicians On-Call Obligations: EMTALA and Beyond.
