Mutual Matters: How Risk Reports Help Minimize Risk and Improve Outcomes

By: Bill Kanich, MD, JD

MagMutual PolicyOwners:

As part of our ongoing mission to provide policyholders with practical tools and useful information, a few years back we launched our Specialty Risk Reports. These reports analyze the top risk-drivers from a library of specialties — including OB-GYN, internal medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, pediatrics and cardiology — to help minimize risk and improve outcomes.

To prepare these reports, our medical faculty and risk consultants analyze decades of our own claims data and determine the main causes of claims related to a surgical procedure or disease state.

Our Risk Reports take a preemptive approach of highlighting risks across multiple specialties and then suggesting strategies to help mitigate them. Each report provides key take-aways, including the top risks per-specialty, what to diagnose better, root causes and specific clinical strategies to reduce risk and deliver better outcomes.

The suggested strategies in each report are practical and can be implemented immediately to reduce risk in your medical practice. They target specific adverse outcomes and provide actionable advice to diminish your risk.

Additionally, these reports are updated on a semi-annual basis when there is a change in the data and/or claims trends — a valuable resource you can rely on as a PolicyOwner.

In fact, I’m confident our Risk Reports will positively impact your practice. Why? Well, as a board-certified EM physician, this is exactly the kind of report I wish I had 20 years ago. And, in a recent policyholder survey, it was determined that 76% of policyholders who use the reports plan to implement the strategies offered. Most specialties will benefit from these reports, regardless of the type of medicine you practice.

With top risk-drivers and mitigation strategies to reduce claims and improve outcomes, our Risk Reports represent an added value to your medical professional liability coverage and reaffirms how MagMutual puts our PolicyOwners first in everything we do. To get started, log in to your MagMutual account to request your Risk Report.

Sincerely,
Bill Kanich
