Andy Baer, MD

Chief Medical Officer

As MagMutual’s chief medical officer, Dr. Baer advises the company on all medical matters and leads risk management education for PolicyOwners as part of MagMutual’s ongoing efforts to help physicians improve patient outcomes and reduce risk.

Before joining MagMutual, Dr. Baer served as an attending physician in emergency medicine at a number of Virginia hospitals, including the Augusta Medical Center, Rockingham Memorial Hospital and Martha Jefferson Hospital. He also was a medical toxicologist at the Blue Ridge Poison Center, part of the University of Virginia Health System.

Dr. Baer serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he received his undergraduate degree in biology and his medical degree and training, including a fellowship in medical toxicology. He was honored with the Leadership Award from the UVA medical school.

Dr. Baer has written a number of peer-reviewed articles on emergency medicine, critical care and toxicology for a variety of medical journals such as the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, the Journal of Toxicology and the Annals of Emergency Medicine. In addition, he has served as a resource for the University of Virginia Research Committee.
